Spring is finally saying hello!

After a long, cold winter, there are signs that spring is coming to stay. While we all love a little snow, every now and then, I think everyone is ready for springs. Judging by the amount of rain that has come down, there will be lovely flowers this year.

We have made it up to 70 degrees, it just doesn’t stay there, but soon enough it will. Color is popping up here and there and animals are seen scurrying along. Everyone is spring cleaning and getting ready for Mother Nature’s vibrant colors.

The High Country is always a beautiful area, with something to offer every season, and spring is no exception. So, if you want to head for higher grounds and experience the calm and beautiful colors of spring, give us a call. Mother’s Day, Graduations, Father’s Day, or just any day, are great times to visit the mountains!

Winter Wonderland

Winter started very early, but then it left us for a while. Finally, the snow came back and has made everyone happy. It has been cold, in the single digits at night and with the wind factor even colder. The ski areas and snow tubing places are full of people. Bring layers!

We hope the rest of the winter is as beautiful as the last few days.

It’s that time of the year again. Christmas is upon us – and just in time for Christmas, Mother Nature brought us a big snowfall! It snowed for over 24 hours and all the local ski areas are open and have plenty of snow. Today we drove around and went shopping to Boone. Some areas got more snow than others, but all got some.

We’ve actually been enjoying a relatively mild winter. But, it is supposed to snow again on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so maybe all our guests and us will be lucky enough to get a White Christmas! We’ll see. Temperatures this morning were down in the high teens. Wherever you may be on Christmas Day, may your day be filled with laughter and good times, may Santa bring you all you hope for, and may you hopefully spend it in the company of loved ones.

To all of those that visited this fall, we want to let you know that our girl Riva had 8 beautiful healthy puppies on the eve of Thanksgiving – 4 boys and 4-girls. Mommy and puppies are doing great. When you all come back next year, we just may have an addition to our brood [I think we are crazy!]. Below is a photo of all the little pumpkins.

All 3 Ski Areas are now open: Sugar Mountain, Ski Beech and Appalachian

We enjoyed a very nice Thanksgiving with returning guests. Lots of chats, rehashing the elections [thank God everyone was on the same page!], and several meals together. It was very pleasant and the weather was great. Even the dogs had a great time!

Now that Thanksgiving is in the books, we turn our attention to Christmas. Come stay in our cozy log home B&B. It is all decorated for Christmas and in the evenings we light candles and put on Christmas music in the living room. The weather has been quite mild with daytime highs in the 50s. And when you leave, you can take a beautiful Christmas Tree home with you. There are many places nearby to choose and cut your tree.

Like to ski? Then come on over and spend a few days at Alluring View B&B in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are 3 ski areas close by, and all 3 are now open. Sugar Mountain was the first to open, as usual. Ski Beech opened about a week ago, and now Appalachian just opened this weekend. So you can take your choice. Snow tubing, ice skating, snow boarding and downhill skiing are all available.

Don’t like to ski? You can always visit Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina’s number one attraction, located in Linville, just 7 miles from Alluring View. Or do some hiking in Linville Falls or along the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you prefer walking, you can walk all around Price Lake, a lovely 2.5 mile walk.

If exercise is not for you, then you can do some shopping in the many local interesting shops such as the Mast General Store, antique shops, and others – or if you prefer, at the Tanger Outlet Stores in Blowing Rock.

Now that the busy season is over, and the leaves are gone, it’s an excellent time to visit the mountains. We hope to see you before Christmas! And we still have some availability during Christmas!

Christmas in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

We enjoyed a delightful Thanksgiving with old guests that came back again this year. We all had a delicious dinner in Blowing Rock and were entertained by a musical trio. Now the turkey is not the only thing that is stuffed!

And now that Thanksgiving is nearly over, we turn our attention to Christmas. Our Christmas Tree goes up tomorrow! This is a great time to visit Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Linville Gorge and all the wonderful towns around this area. You can still go horseback trail riding right in our neighborhood. The leaves are down, it is very clear, and the big crowds are gone so it is even more peaceful. Even though we have already had 2 snowfalls, the temperatures have been quite mild with highs in the 50s. And when you visit, you can choose and cut a Christmas tree to take back with you.

We still have some availability for Christmas, so if you have been thinking about spending Christmas in the mountains, or visiting between now and Christmas, make your reservation soon. That is a great cabin to rent to spend time with family or friends, or for a romantic, very private getaway. You have 15+ private acres around you.

Choose & Cut your Christmas Tree in Linville, NC

Starting now all our guests and friends can come and get their Christmas Tree from our patch. You can choose a tree, and we will cut it for you, so come prepared to take a Christmas Tree home with you, if you so desire. That means, try to bring your stand, and a vehicle that can take a tree. Prices are great and the trees could not be fresher! If you stay with us, you can get a tree for $30-$40 depending on size.

We are located in Jonas Ridge, between Linville Falls and Linville [home of Grandfather Mountain]. Our trees have been growing for 8 years. It is amazing how long it takes for these trees to grow. With the snowfall we had this week, they looked beautiful. We have had so much wind that most of the snow is gone. But don’t worry, there is plenty of snow nearby, and all the roads are clear.

For those that enjoy skiing, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort in Banner Elk opened on Halloween! So if you want to ski, come prepared.

For those that enjoy hiking or horseback riding, or even taking scenic drives, that is also available. This weekend will bring great weather and sunny days. We hope to enjoy it.

We have been so busy with guests this October that I have not had much time to blog. One of our guests was a couple that had stayed here before, and were dying to visit again - Nikki and her husband. She is a photographer, and was gracious enough to share some of the beautiful photos she took, both in the B&B and around the area. We have had some nice colors all around the area, and still have plenty of color. I guess this recent temperature change to slightly warmer temperatures [in the 60s] have made fall colors last longer. Just yesterday, we drove over to Mt Mitchell in the afternoon to do a little hiking, and saw incredible color along the Blue Ridge Parkway!

We have had magnificent weather for the last 2 weeks, and we sure hope it stays that way longer

A Fall Wedding and A Visit From Old Guests!

This last week was quite busy at Alluring View B&B! We welcomed the guests of the Stephen-Caralyn wedding earlier in the week, and also welcomed the return of previous guests on Friday. The area is full of tourists with their cameras, trying to capture the beautiful colors of Mother Nature. Anywhere you go, the mountains are adorned with bright colors!

Our wedding guests had a few days packed with fraternizing and lots of food. The actual ceremony was on Saturday afternoon, and although we barely saw the bride, we did manage to take some photos. The groom, his dad and 2 brothers all dressed in traditional Scottish attire [kilts]. The groom’s family and some of their friends and relatives stayed with us, and enjoyed numerous meals together.

The other guests this weekend were old guests that have been looking forward to spending some time in our beautiful mountains. They could not have picked a better weekend! It is hard to predict which week will have good color, but this weekend was certainly nicely colored. We are now enjoying the gorgeous photos taken by Nikki of “His Glory Creations” during her visit this weekend and will post some of them soon!

Now that this group has gone home, and we are waiting for the next guests to arrive this evening.

The long awaited fall colors have arrived. We have beautiful colors all around the area. It came early this year, just as I suspected. The good thing is that now most of the colors are at or above us, then they will be at or below, and keep on going down the mountains, so there is plenty of time to plan your trip to the mountains.

There are plenty of fall festivals all around the High Country. We’ve already had the Festival of OZ. Next weekend is Oktoberfest, and the following is the Woolly Worm Festival. We have absolutely no rooms for next weekend. If we had 100 rooms, they would all be rented, based on the number of calls. Unfortunately, that weekend has long been sold out.

This Wednesday we start welcoming the guests of the STEPHEN – CARALYN wedding. We know they will have a good time and hope the weather is nice!

Fall is just around the corner!

Well, it is already September 17, and it will be officially fall in just a few days. The leaves have started turning in this area, and as always, it is anyone’s guess when we will reach peak. Overnight temperatures have already dipped into the 40s, and summer days are gone until next year!

I don’t know what will happen with all the rain we have been having. Does that affect when we peak? Will we have a more colorful, or less colorful fall foliage? Don’t really know, but we will soon find out.

What I do know is that it is time to get the sweaters, turtlenecks and jackets our of storage and ready to use. Apples and pumpkins are everywhere, and all the kids have gone back to school. Fall is such a beautiful and colorful season, we should all go out and see mother nature do its thing!
